Computer Network
1. Course description
This
course provides students with the foundational knowledge of computer network
developing through layers of reference models from the Link, Network, Transport,
Session, Presentation and Application layer. The protocols and services of each
layers are throughly discussed, and network security will also be learned.
2. Course
Goals
-
Explain the importance of reference models in the
computer network subject matter;
- Explain the transmission of data over the network
aligning with network protocols through procol stack, the data unit at each
layer such as datagrams, packets or frames;
-
Explain the functions and characteristic of protocols in
TCP/IP protocol suite;
-
Analyze network data unit at frame (Ethernet), packet
(IP) and TCP Stream level;
-
Explain the various aspects of network security and
underlying technologies;
-
Install and Configure common services at application
layer;
-
Demonstrate ability to use softwares or virtualization
solution to setup network infrastructure and services.
